I love visiting Rocks in My Dryer for "Works for Me Wednesday!" This is my contribution and what has worked for me this past week!
I use cloth diapers on my littles here and they were in great need of refreshing. I took a little break and went back to disposable for a while after I found out that I'm expecting again. The nausea and extreme sleepiness didn't combine well with the smells, experiences, and wash schedules of cloth diapering (which usually don't bother me). Anyhow, I wanted to go back this last week but my covers, pail liners, and prefolds were all holding a bit of a smell that was bugging me and I thought might be the culprit for Colette's rash before switching over to disposables for a time.
SO, here's what worked for me! I popped on over to The Diaper Pin in search of help and this is the method I tried:
1. Prewash the diapers in cold water with no detergent.
2. Fill the washer with cold water and add 1/2 cup of baking soda. Agitate for 1-2 minutes and then leave them to soak overnight.
3. Wash diapers in hot water with minimal detergent (as usual: I use regular powdered Tide) and add 1/2 cup of vinegar to the the fabric softener compartment for the rinse.
4. Run one more rinse.
5. Dry diapers as usual or hang out in the sunshine for stain removal purposes.
Those diapers came out smelling as sweet as the day they arrived in my mail! They are softer, cleaner, and NOT causing any rash. Not to mention that Colette doesn't always seem like she smells. That was a down point. I think I'll try this diaper re-vamp every month to keep them fresh. I can't wait until the snow goes away so I can hang them out in the sunshine, that makes them even that much sweeter!
