Crafty Fun

My (admittedly poor) Sampler, the first "Mini-Project" from Stitch by Stitch: Learning to Sew One Project at a Time by Deborah Moebes.  It was fun to see what my machine can do!  I have only left it on the most basic of settings, for the most basic of projects.  I'm looking forward to working my way through this book.  It's my project for the end my pregnancy.

Fabric rosettes adorning my newly acquired bulletin board (swiped from the girls' room).  I don't have immediate access to a craft store for a more beautiful cork board overhaul, so I just added these.  They were so easy to make, and pretty!

"Blessings Board" a dry-erase board where the girls and I can count our blessings.  This is in my office area of the school room/play room.  We used a broken flower hair clip instead of making fabric flowers.  I love this; we have so much to be thankful for.

I'm enjoying all the inspiration I'm finding around the internet, and the freedom to do these things before my little guy arrives and I spend my days nursing, feeding children, nursing, teaching school, nursing, doing laundry, oh, and nursing.  I know I don't have great crafty skills, but it's so much fun!  (Oh!  And Charlie and I are making these tonight!  I can't wait!  They'll be perfect in my "office" and for school!)  Ok, off to eat that fresh loaf of bread downstairs with some Nutella.  hehe

  4. I love that you are getting to know your sewing machine better and better! One of my favorite things to do with the tight zig zag stitch is to applique fabric onto another piece of fabric. You start by ironing "wonder Under" onto the back side of fabric, then cut it out to your choice (ie, letters, flowers, etc.) then iron it onto the other fabric. The finishing touch is zig zagging around the outside to make sure it doesn't fray when washed. I always think of you when I do a project like this because a) you have girls and you can do so much with this art b) you are willing to try new things and c) your choice of colors and fabrics are always so pretty.

Also, I absolutely love the repurposing of the pallets! What a fantastic idea! Let me know how that goes! I so wished we lived closer, I could learn so much from you and your adventourous spirit!

Love to all, and hope Colette had a wonderful birthday!

  5. Did you recently buy your sewing machine? I really want to get one, but I have no idea where to start (I just need a very simple one because I know nothing about using one). If you did just buy yours, how did you choose?
