Birthday Takes (v.22)

1. My Birthday
It's been one week since my birthday.  I just turned 30.
3-0
How could this be?

2. Birthday by the Numbers
With my new decade, came some fun numbers.
  • I've now known and loved my amazing husband for half my life.  Half my life!  I was but a child at 15 when we met, and I knew then that he was "the one."  I feel so blessed that we have grown up together.
  • I'm 30 years old with 5 children.  And about to celebrate 10 years of marriage. (more on all that later...)
  • In thinking ahead, I realize that in only 10 short years on my 40th birthday, I will have a house full of teenagers and pre-teens (and who knows what else!).  18, 17, 15, 13, 11...  Woah.
3. Little Joys
It's sooooo fun to have kids who are old enough to read and write.  Their drawings and notes of love are such a treasure.  I woke up to toast (which they are also old enough to make, I never thought this day would come) and a sweet "book" detailing why they love me and letting me know that I "rock."

4. Little Gifts
A gorgeous birthday bouquet graced the table for my birthday dinner from my inlaws.  I had been craving the comfort of a beautiful rosemary roast and potatoes.  It was simple and perfect.  My big girls set an elegant table and then we all shared birthday brownie sundaes.

Going back, I also was treated to my favorite breakfast, souffles at Panera.  Yum!

5. So Long 20's
I've been watching my classmates from high school turn 30 over the last few months on Facebook.  One acquaintance made reference to saying good-bye to their "roaring 20's."  I thought that was quite clever.
Upon further reflection, I realized that that particular term could certainly not describe my 20's!  I spent my 20's learning how to be a wife and having babies!  There was little to no partying, traveling, or any of those other things that the culture expects of those in their 20's.  Maybe that sounds sad to some, but I'm thankful for 10 years of growing up!  I feel very secure in my vocation and the direction life is taking ME.
I think this new decade should be quite exciting!

7. Thankful
I am thankful for another year of life.  I have great hope that this will turn out to be a good year and I can't wait to see what God has in store!

  1. Happy birthday!! Both my sister and husband will be hitting the big 3-0 this year (and I'm not too far behind). It looks like your 20's were truly blessed, and I hope your 30's are even more so as well.

  2. Happy Birthday! And wow, when I read #2, except for the 5 children part (I had two) that could have been me if I blogged when I was 30, except I don't think blogs were out there back in the day. (I am leaving my 40's at the end of 2013.) The great thing about having your children when you are young, no ones believes I could have adult children:)Peace.

  3. Happy birthday! :)

I started dating my husband when I was 15 (although we met when I was 14, but that was when he was dating my friend - LOL).

  4. Dearest Andrea,

Happy (belated) birthday! You look fantastic (and skinny! :)

I am absolutely TERRIBLE about keeping up online, but please know you and your sweet family are terribly missed. How on earth is "little" Joe so big? Ahh... we need to catch up soon!

  5. Happy Birthday! I hit my 3-0 almost three years ago and will hit my 3-5 in two years. The 3-5 will bring the tattoo that I was hoping to get on my 3-0 but couldn't justify spending grocery money to get.

  6. Happy Belated Birthday! I didn't mind leaving the twenties for my thirties either. Each decade has it highs and lows, though I only managed to have four kids before I turned 30. ;)
And #3 is so true; birthdays and Mother's Day are so much better now that the kids are old enough to make me presents.
