Was it just me, or were today's readings at mass not just so beautiful??
"...as a bridegroom rejoices in his bride, so shall your God rejoice in you." (From Isiah 62. This reading literally made me smile. And made me think of this.)
"To each individual the manifestation of the Spirit is given for some benefit." (From 1 Corinthians. As different gifts were read, I thought of people I know who have them: wisdom, knowledge, faith, healing, discernment of spirits, etc. I wonder which God gave me?)
"Do whatever He tells you." (From John - this is one of my favorite verses in the Bible. We do well to heed Our Lady's words as well, no?)
Today we attended Mass at the parish where my husband grew up. Aesthetically, this church leaves quite a lot to be desired. While there, I miss nice traditional architecture, lovely stained glass, incense, and bells, and you know...things like a corpus on the cross and a tabernacle.
Nonetheless, every time I go, I can't help but feel warmly toward this church. This is the church that nourished my beloved in his youth and embraced him as he received sacraments, built friendships that sustained his faith, and educated him about how to be a man of God. In fact, for the first time ever, I regretted that we weren't married in this church today. His roots here run deep.
So, speaking of things that "leave a lot to be desired," here are my photos of What I Wore to Mass today.
Here was my first attempt on my own. I was going to have my girls help, but we're visiting with cousins, so there was no way I was going to pull them out of their fun to take pictures with me! So I coerced my darling husband into taking the photo for me (again.) With not so great results...as you can see...
He kept saying, "Smile!!!" But, he was down two steps to get the picture and if I smiled it made me look 100 lbs heaver! So this is "serious Andrea," you're welcome.
So, I just got this sweater at Target on clearance, yay! Same with the belt. In addition, I added a lightweight black mock turtleneck. (What can I say, I really like black.) My denim skirt is some fancy-smancy brand I can't remember, but I got it for a steal while out thrifting one day! My boots are black leather Merrils. I waited FOREVER to get these boots when I lived in Colorado. They were just so far out of my price range at retail price that we put them on my list on eBay to email me if someone was selling in my size. One day they showed up in brand new condition, in my size, and at about 1/5 of the price. Woohoo! (I'm glad I waited and got nice quality rather than settling for poor quality. These are so versatile, have great support, and were essential in cold Colorado and Wyoming winters.)

Lovely outfit! Great sweater and belt. Maybe I need to get up to Target...still looking for a red cardigan myself :)
ReplyDeleteHaha, I know what you mean about taking pics from an upward angle! No bueno for me! Thankfully, my husband is about 1 foot taller than I am, so I always grab him while he's still standing to take my picture ;-)
ReplyDeleteI just had to get rid of my only sequin-y clothing item this week! I'm devastated. Your cardi is very cute.
I love the sequins. I feel the same way about my husband's childhood parish... it leaves much to be desired, but it's the place he was baptized and received the sacraments of First Holy Communion, First Reconciliation, and Confirmation. I don't love the architecture or the setup, but I can't help but feel warmly about the place.
ReplyDeleteI love the sequins! I so want to add more to my wardrobe, but the kids tend to pick at them whenever I wear my few embellished clothing items... And nice job with those boots - it's so worth it to wait for quality.
ReplyDeleteI can see why you like to wear pink! It looks amazing on you.
ReplyDeleteAnd thank you for your sweet Gianna comment. Put a big smile on my face :)
I love your sparky cardigan! I've been wanting one just like that. You look lovely. I may have to head over to Target this week.
ReplyDeleteI have to tell you, it was because of reading your blog, especially your most recent post sharing the article about the struggles of a 21st century wife and mother, that I was completely compelled to finally do something with my blog that I started months ago and never touched again. Thank you for inspiring me!
And I know you would want me to tell you..it looks like somehow the captcha got turned back on on your comments!

ReplyDeleteI love the red sweater. Cute outfit!
ReplyDeleteYou look great! Such a fun sweater and belt.
ReplyDeleteNice outfit, Andrea! I think the makeup and clothing colors you chose look really good on you. And I smiled at your point about smiling making you look 100 lb heavier (tho I doubt it). Camera angle, lighting, etc. all make a big difference.
